Accra Investment Forum 2012.…

The Millennium Cities Initiative (MCI), at the Earth Institute, Columbia University in New York, in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Accra, Ghana, and its Chief Executive, Alfred Vanderpuije, will host:

The Accra Investment Forum in March  2012, at Columbia University in the City of New York....

The purpose of the Event is to showcase Accra, the capital of Ghana, as the Investment destination in Sub-Saharan Africa and to bring to the attention of the US investor community, the African and Ghanaian expatriates communities living in the United States and Canada, and other interested business representatives, commercially viable foreign direct investment opportunities in the Millennium City of Accra. As has been well documented, the African continent is among the fastest-growing economic regions in the world, recording a growth rate of nearly 5% in 2010, and a predicted rate of about 5.2% in 2011. The Ghanaian economy is a big player in this dynamic growth, and Accra serves as the gateway and the face of Ghana.

The Sectors to be presented at the Forum will include: Financial Services (Banking, Insurance, Stock Market); Real Estate Development (luxury and affordable housing and hostels); Power and Energy (solar, thermal, solid/liquid waste); Communication; Transportation; Tourism & Hospitality; Medical Tourism; Sports and Entertainment; ICT; Pharmaceuticals; Education (Tertiary and Skill Training); the Garment Industry, and Infrastructure.

Senior level government and public sector officials, senior level business Executives, and entrepreneurs, will travel from Ghana to the Forum to share their insights into these market opportunities and to seek new partners and investors. Among them will be Officials from the Bank of Ghana, Ministries of Finance and Economic Development, Trade and Industries, and Tourism and Culture; Association of Ghanaian Industries (AGI), and Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC).

The key note speakers at the Forum will be: Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director, The Earth Institute at Columbia University;

His Excellency Ambassador Daniel O Agyekum, Ambassador of Ghana to the United States; Honorable Alfred Vanderpuije, the Mayor of Metropolitan Accra and others to be named later. There will be a 3 hour Pre-Forum Reception in the evening of October 24th and a full day of presentations on October 25th followed by a dinner Event of Ghanaian dishes.

A detailed, focused report on Accra, the commercial hub of Ghana, will be released during the event. There will also be a report on the infrastructure needs for businesses in Accra and an Investors guide to investing in Ghana.

We have no doubt that the attending companies will benefit greatly from this Forum on Accra. Partnerships between U.S. and Ghanaian businesses and with the Metropolitan City of Accra will be formed, during this Forum.
